  • Project Handicapped, Iraq

    LaDawna Mckinnis

My name is LaDawna McKinnis, I am a single woman and 31 years of age. For the past two years I have been living in Northern Kurdistan of Iraq.

It was four years ago that God answered the prayers of a young girl by putting a burning passion in my heart to reach out to the Kurdish nation.  In order to stay and live amongst the Kurdish people I acquired a job teaching the English language to Kurdish children.  This job enabled me to build various important relationships with students, parents, security and government officials. That open door, as a teacher, allowed me the opportunity to share the love of Jesus Christ and to speak into their very lives. However, I knew the fulfilling of this calling had not come to pass; my heart and mind were in a state of unrest.

I began to pray for God to show me the direction in which he wanted me to go; and so I waited patiently for an answer.  God’s answer came in 2013 when once again, dark times fell upon the Kurds. Syrian Kurds began flooding into Kurdistan by the thousands because their enemy wanted to ethnically cleanse the land of Syria of all Kurds.  These Syrian Kurds were forced to leave their homes, their belongings, their money, everything they called their own.   A refugee camp in the city of Domeiz was set up by the Kurdish government to receive and house these displaced families.  There are now 80,000 people residing in this refugee camp alone, along with many other camps throughout the Kurdish nation.   These families are living in a time where there is no good and all they see is evil.  I knew I could not sit by and do nothing; it was time for me to do something.

I began a handicapped tutoring program within the Domeiz Refugee Camp.

This program offers children social, daily activity, physical, and communicational skills.  These handicapped children and their families are in “great need.”  There are no other programs nor are there any facilities for these children to go to be educated.  Currently my team consists of myself and my interpreter Gulay, who is a Syrian Kurdish refugee herself.  The needs in Kurdistan are abundantly great and grow every day, but there are too little resources available.  Here in the States we have resources for the handicapped that these precious people can only dream about.  With your help we can make their dream a reality.  This is my mission, to show these beautiful people that through the love of Jesus Christ miracles can happen.  Our outstretched hands of hope are the miracle they are waiting for. Through this program lives are being touched and radically changed through the gospel of Jesus Christ.  They love us and cannot thank us enough for being there.  They say “it is the Christian believers who care for us and who are helping us.”  Those Christian believers they speak of consist of you and me.

I am truly grateful to all those who help this project with their prayers and their financial support. This work cannot continue without YOU!!!!!  I thank you for taking the time to read this.  It is because of you that a difference is being made in Kurdistan like never before.  I love you and may God’s blessings forever be upon you.

  • Destiny RESCUE

    Cory Nichols

Destiny Rescue rescues children from red light districts, brothels and sexually abusive situations.

Destiny Rescue provides rescued children the intensive care and love they need to recover from the traumatic effects of sexual abuse and sexual exploitation. We provide them medical help, counseling, schooling, vocational training and all daily needs required to be integrated back into society successfully. In addition, we provide a safe protective place for them to live, grow and experience the unconditional love of God – a place where they can feel valued and esteemed; a place where they can be kids again.

Destiny Rescue offers programs that help at-risk children and families reduce their children’s chances of being sold, lured or trafficked into the sex-trade.

Destiny Rescue believes in empowering the poor and giving them a hand up in life, not a handout. Our philosophy and goal is to help them become self-sustaining through one of our many assistance programs. Simply put, we don’t want to create a welfare system where children and families become dependent on our organization, but rather have a chance to become profitable through hard work and common sense.

Destiny Rescue is committed to being a voice for the sexually exploited, vulnerable and poor who, in most cases, can’t speak up for themselves. We believe everyone has a right to be heard, especially those crying out for justice. Many times they are overlooked or tossed aside by society, but we are determined to be their voice – motivating and inspiring influencers to get involved and make a difference in the lives of the voiceless.

    Dr. Bonnie Barjas

Ever since I was a little girl, I have always felt God's calling on my life to become a missionary, but I often wondered how that would come to be since I was already a missionary PK (Pastors Kid) in Tijuana Mexico. Through the years, I have also felt God impressing upon me the importance of doing something with my education.

In response to the Lord's leading, I have pursued dentistry and graduated in 2013. I really enjoy the dental field and also believe that medical and dental outreaches are a great tool for opening doors for evangelism and providing the oppertunity to minister not only to people's physical needs, but to their personal spiritual needs as well. My desire to serve in this capacity fits well with Mexican Medical's mission of bringing healing and hope to the people of Mexico and I look forward to seeing how God will use me in the years to come.
